How to call a US number from abroad

1. Start with your international exit code, or use + if your dialer accepts it.
2. Enter the calling code 1.
3. Add the 3-digit area code and the 7-digit number. Do not add another 1 between the country code and the area code.
4. In Ringvoo, enter +1 202 555 0100. This is a fictional 555-01xx example, not an assigned line.

US phone-number format

Mobile and landline numbers use this same 10-digit shape in the numbering data. The examples below are in the 555-01xx range reserved for fictional use.

Current Ringvoo calling rates

The rate catalog lists a combined destination rate of $0.03/min. That price is indicative. It is not a separate mobile or landline price, and it depends on the number you dial.

The rate card shows a mobile price and a general destination rate when the catalog lists them. A landline price appears only when a landline rate is classified. Those prices are for the listed categories, not for every number in the country.

How to make a call using Ringvoo

1. Open Ringvoo in a browser such as Chrome, Safari, or Edge. There is no separate app to install.
2. Sign in and add pay-as-you-go credits. You pay for the minutes you use.
3. Enter the number in international form, such as +1 202 555 0100. That sample shows the format and is not an assigned line.
4. Read the rate shown for that number before you call. A mobile and a landline can have different rates.
5. Call from the browser. The person answers on a normal phone.

Area codes, mobiles, and landlines

A US number in this numbering data is 10 digits: a 3-digit area code and a 7-digit local number. (202) 555-0100 is written internationally as +1 202 555 0100. (201) 555-0123 is +1 201 555 0123. Both validate as fixed-line or mobile, so the format does not say which one you are calling.

An area code does not reliably show where the person is right now. Numbers move with their users, and a mobile number can be answered away from the area named by its code.

Because +1 is shared, a +1 number is not automatically a US number. Canada and other North American Numbering Plan territories use it too. Check the rate Ringvoo shows for the exact number before you call.

Calling notes

Languages often used are English and Spanish. Cities people often call include New York, Los Angeles, and Chicago. Those city names are not assigned to the 202 and 201 examples above. Time zones in the existing destination notes include America/New_York, America/Chicago, America/Denver, and America/Los_Angeles. Business hours are often Monday–Friday, 9am–5pm in the local time zone.

Common dialing problems

• Writing +1 1 before the area code. The international example is +1 202 555 0100, not a second 1 after the country code.
• Treating +1 as a code that only the United States uses.
• Assuming the area code is the person's current location.
• If the call does not connect, check that the number has 10 digits after +1 and that the account has credits. One failed attempt does not mean every call to a US number will fail.
